The content pieces for the second Pediatric Dental Practice Magazine in Romania were conceived under the Myths and Mistakes umbrella, as myths, prejudices and diagnostic mistakes can interfere with the process of decision making, as well as the formulation of our decisions -whether professional or related to personal life.

The decision to get vaccinated or not, without the pretense of absolute advice, is carefully and wisely tackled from the philosophical perspective of Lecturer Dr. Cioara Ionel. But this perspective can serve as a guide in making any kind of decision.

The decision of approaching a pediatric patient in the dental chair- without having the necessary pediatric experience or qualification and abandoning them in a psychologically traumatized condition in the middle of a failed therapy, after injecting or milling, in an undoubtedly correct way according to dental theory, but an incorrect one in terms of practical evidence- is carefully approached by dr. Nicoleta Van Gelder. Dr. Van Gelder’s perspective relies on studies of Applied Psychology but also on the significant pediatric case studies throughout her experience: more than 10,000 patients. How do you approach a pediatric patient, who -after being mistakenly approached by a colleague- no longer wants to cooperate? What are your chances of regaining their cooperation? What resources do you need to make use of?

Mistakes and food myths? In a field like Pediatric Dentistry? Yes! Nutritional counseling should be part of the current dental practice. The prognosis and reliability of our restorative treatments is also conditioned by the patient’s food habits and hygiene –not only by our therapeutic performance.
