Applied learning experiences: practicums

Editorial n. 3 March 2021

Motto: We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit. Will Durant.

This March we mark one year since the outbreak of the Sars-Cov2 Pandemic. This time last year, no one would have predicted last year that the drama of the unique experiences lived successively by each of us so far will take place with even greater intensity in a year’s time.  The lack of information or repetitive excess of inconclusive information or with a negative psychological impact, ignoring or even neglecting care, maintenance, up-date and / or progress activities – other than those related to CO-VID19-induced us the belief that if… COVID is not then nothing is…! As our heroes were ignored during the state of emergency, to date, it is not known how many fellow dentists have assumed all the risks of exposure and stock-based protection conditions when the equipment market was unable to supply them. We have not yet been apologized to for the random initially mandatory and subsequently optional investments needed. We have not yet seen explanations related to the prohibition of the functioning of the dental offices with entrance is through the block staircase house and no facilities for reorganization.  It is the teacher of the year in Romania – Vladimir Bogoslavievici who reminds us that Romanian Dentistry was born in Cluj Napoca through Dr. Gheorge Bilascu.

It is because we are ignorant of the legislation that is specifically addressed to us – the last law regarding the conditions of authorization and operation dates from 2003 – the last amendments from June 2020, still abandoning us to the interpretive hazards of local institutions. In this respect, we propose to address questions to lawyers regarding the rules for approving and operating dental activities – outside and in parallel with the COVID restrictions. What kind of conditions must a space meet in order to receive an operating permit from the DSP or a change of destination from the Local Urban Planning Commission?

As no solidarity was shown to colleagues who suffered from the burn-out-post COVID syndrome – this condition of occupational disease – not yet officially recognized as a new position. We offer here at least some anti-burn out tips for daily practice.

And so – even if these aberrations of reporting to normality – are not of today nor of yesterday – I begin to understand that- quoting Linus Pauling (1901-1994): behind the changes be they behavioral, somatic or cellular, there are molecular changes, while behind the molecular changes, there are informational (quantum) changes and beyond the molecular pathology, there is the informational pathology.
